Provides oral care such as dental prophylaxis, scaling, radiographs, and sealants to patients and offers preventive education material to assist with developing and maintaining good oral health.
Delivers direct patient care using established dental hygienist procedures. Performs dental prophylaxis, scaling and root planning, takes digital radiographs, develops and implements individualized dental care plans for patients.
Uses patient screening procedures to include medical history review and dental charting. Records and reports pertinent observations.
Sterilizes instruments and sets up and prepares dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines.
Perform preventive care with pit and fissure sealants.
REQUIRED: Associate’s degree in Dental Hygiene, plus 2 years of dental hygiene experience. Current dental hygiene license in the State of Indiana. Computer experience.
Ability to effectively communicate and exchange information. Knowledge of dentistry and ability to explain techniques to patients. Understanding customer service and interacting with a diverse population of patients.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
Must be able to remain in a stationary position at dental unit that will include movement to pass instruments and supplies. Frequently move supplies and instruments to dental units up to 50 pounds. Must be able to identify, coordinate, and utilize all dental instruments needed for procedures. The person in this position frequently communicates with patients and faculty about treatment and other follow up.
