GRS – National Insurance Actuarial – Umbrella and Excess Reserving

National Insurance Actuarial is looking for an Assistant Actuary responsible for producing high quality Reserving analyses in support of Commercial Umbrella and Excess Liability lines of business. This position will also develop prospective loss ratios to support the financial plan for Umbrella and Excess. Effective communication of all assumptions, methods, trends and risk throughout the organization is also critical for this role.
As such, the successful candidate will possess strong analytical and communication skills, as well as a demonstrated ability to execute thoroughly in a collaborative environment. The preferred location is Boston but we are open to additional locations. The position will report to Ryan Royce.
Develop detailed reserve estimates for the Commercial Umbrella and Excess lines of business in a timely manner
Present selections quarterly to senior management throughout Actuarial & Finance.
Recognize internal and external changes that influence unpaid loss estimates, and incorporate into analyses
Effectively document assumptions and highlight ranges and sources of risk
Build strong relationships and collaborate closely with Claims, Finance, and Information Management.
Prepare analyses to support the financial plan for Commercial Umbrella and Excess
Assist in various internal and external reporting requirements
Build and implement process improvement initiatives in collaboration with other line of business teams and cross-functional stakeholders
Bachelor’s degree and ACAS required.
Minimum 3-5 years relevant experience required
Sound knowledge of actuarial techniques and standards, as well as other business operations including financial, underwriting, legal, statistics, claims, sales, etc.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills and ability to build relationships and interact effectively with others within and outside the organization.
Ability to influence peers and motivate and train junior members of the team
Strong initiative and ability to critically assess key uncertainties that drive reserve risk
